ALTERNATIVE FILM DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

This workshop introduces an alternative approach to developing black-and-white analog film using instant coffee, offering an ecological replacement for commercial developers with ingredients commonly found in your own home.
The session is designed for participants of all experience levels, including those new to the darkroom. You’ll learn the entire film-developing process from start to finish and leave with a set of developed negatives, ready for printing or scanning.

Mivan Makia is an Iraqi-Kurdish filmmaker, documentary photographer, and researcher based in the United Arab Emirates.
Interested in self-portraiture and West Asian cultural expression, her artistic process relies on experimentation and interdisciplinary research to delve into the fluctuating perspectives of transient bodies. Her practice explores the links between these bodies and the landscape through memory work, geopolitical narratives and speculative fiction.

Makia has exhibited her films in festivals and screenings internationally, including in Canada, the USA, England, Spain, France, and the UAE.
